Instructions

  1. For the cape, cut a 32” circle from the beige fleece blanket. Cut a 24” semi-circle from one edge to create neck of cape. Cut a 2” wide by 24” long strip of black fleece. Fold over the edge and sew into the semi-circle.
  2. Cut a 4” strip of black fleece, 4 yards in length. Sew a long running stitch along one edge of the fleece. Pull the top threads to gather and sew all the way around the outer edge of cape with a top stitch.
  3. Cover work surface with Surface Cover and lay cape over plastic.
  4. Prepare the cape for painting by applying masking tape in a plaid pattern. (See photo for details.) Cover areas that will not be painted with paper towels.
  5. Spray the plaid design with Scarlet and Asphalt Fabric Spray Paint.
  6. Let paint set for 30 minutes then pull off the masking tape and paper towels. Let dry overnight.
  7. Cut a 4” wide by 32” long strip of black fleece. Glue horizontally across the cape with Fabric Fusion. Refer to photo.
  8. Fasten the two buckles to the grommets in the belting 12” in from both ends. Glue the belting along the center of black fleece strip on cape with Fabric Fusion. Weigh down the belting with books or heavy objects overnight to dry.
  9. Cut two strips of black fleece 32” long. Sew both strips to the corners of the neck opening to create ties for cape.
