Della Robbia Vase

Holiday wreaths aren’t just for the front door anymore! Pair Ultra Metallics™ with OS™ Opaque Acrylics on the Duncan® Oh Four™ Contempo Pillow Vase for a contemporary twist on classic Christmas décor.

Instructions

1. Wipe vase with damp sponge to remove bisque dust.
2. Pour puddle of Bisque White on foil. Basecoat entire vase using the Fan Glaze brush. Let dry and brush on a second coat. Let dry.
3. Place clay carbon paper on vase and place pattern on top. Use pencil to trace over pattern lines to transfer design.
4. Pour puddles of Silver, Gold, Copper, Bronze and Black onto a clean piece of foil. Using the No. 6 Round, paint larger leaves around vase and apple at top with Silver. Paint the pear and two smaller apples Gold.
5. To add dimension, use the No. 1 Liner to paint Black around the fruit and between leaves. Use the No. 6 Round to paint the bottom section of design Black. When dry, the berries and small leaves will be painted over the black.
6. Add a small touch of Black to the Silver and paint a shadow along bottom and side of the large apple at top of design, as well as the center of the silver leaves, blending into the silver. Make a small indented area at top of apple with a slightly darker shade. Add a touch of White along left side to highlight apple.
7. Brush Copper along bottom and sides of pear and remaining apples. Add a little Bronze on bottom areas for shadow.
8. For pinecones, roughly sketch out pinecone shapes where shown. Paint short strokes of copper across pinecone shapes using the No. 6 brush. Refer to photo to determine placement.
9. Paint small gold leaves at the bottom and copper berries in the center of leaves. Highlight berries with small dot of White. Refer to photo.
10. Paint in Fir Tree sprigs with the No. 1 Liner using a mixture of Silver and Black. Refer to photo. Detail veining in leaves with same mixture. Refer to photo and add more sprigs and leaves around the wreath. Let dry.
11. If desired, brush on a coat of Satin Sealer. Let dry.
