Dazzling Doily Lantern

By day, this colorful lantern will be the center of attention in any room. By night, it adds an ethereal atmosphere by allowing light and shadows to resonate its surroundings. So simple and chic, you can make it from either new or upcycled doilies.

Instructions:

1. Cover work surface with disposable tablecloth.

2. Prepare dyes according to package instructions.

3. Lay six doilies aside to remain white. Place six doilies in each plastic bag.

4. Pour a different color dye each bag with doilies. Squeeze out most of the air and then seal bag. Work the dye into the doilies with hands.

5. Let dye set for 6-8 hours.

6. After dye has set, rinse each doily in running water until completely clear. Lay flat to dry.

7. Cut a 3-inch hole in the center of one of the doilies for inserting a lamp kit later.

8. Blow up balloon and cover with a thin coat of petroleum jelly.

9. Pour Aleene’s® Fabric Stiffener & Draping Liquid in disposable bowl. Place doilies one at a time into the bowl and saturate with stiffener.

10. Squeeze out excess stiffener and place each doily on balloon, overlapping at edges until the entire balloon is covered.

11. Apply Tacky Glue® to the areas where the doilies overlap to ensure adhesion.

12. Let dry 24 hours or until the doilies are completely dry.

13. Pop the balloon and pull it out through the hole.

14. Insert lamp kit to hang.
