Duncan Color Burst Crystal Chips Vertical Technique

When placed on vertical surfaces, the crystals burst and slide down the side for incredible effects. These vases are the perfect setting to experiment achieving unique results!

  1. For each of the pieces, follow the general instructions, altering each for the fired color and Color Burst Chips as listed.
  2. Wipe ware with damp sponge to remove bisque dust.
  3. Place an amount of the designated glaze in a small cup and add a small amount of water, thinning the glaze to a light cream consistency. Pour the glaze into the vase and roll the thinned glaze around to coat the entire inside of the vase, pouring out the excess.
  4. Using either the Fan Glaze brush or the No. 6 Round as needed, apply two flowing coats of the designated glaze to the vase, allowing the glaze to dry thoroughly between coats.
  5. Place an amount of the Color Burst Crystals on palette, pour out a small amount of glaze onto palette as well and mix in some of the crystals. Using the No. 6 Round, load the glaze with crystals on the brush and apply to the lip and neck of the vase as well as around the widest portion of the vase, moving the crystals around for the desired placement. A heavier concentration of crystals will cause more color intensity and movement from the crystals, a lighter or more spaced amount of crystals will create a more dotted pattern of crystal bursts, and larger crystal chunks will create a larger color burst and flow, as a small crystal will create a tiny color spot. Allow to dry thoroughly.
  6. Stilt and fire to cone 06.

For each vase as shown:

  1.      CN 511 Sunflower; Crystals: Blue Surge, Red Eruption, White Hot
  2.      DG 202 Organza Orange Blast; Crystals: Pitch Black, Green Thunder, Yellow Burst
  3.      SN 372 Red Velvet; Crystals: Pitch Black, Green Thunder, White Hot
