Suzie Shinseki

Suzie works as a Senior Designer at iLoveToCreate®. She has been involved with art since childhood, and her passion has continued throughout her life. She honed her natural talents by attending the Academy of Arts in San Francisco on scholarship, art classes at San Jose City College. She works with various media and substrates. You can find her masterpieces on painted signs, murals, people and animal portraiture, mold design, sculptures, ceramic projects and fabric paint designs. Her commercial endeavors include children’s coloring books, illustrative designs for bags, brochures and cards. Her exceptional illustration skills have brought her many jobs as a fashion illustrator for designers in Hong Kong and Hawaii.

Face Time

Turn teatime a social affair with these wonky face teacups. The designs of these Duncan® Oh Four® mugs are already full of whimsy and Duncan® Envision® Glazes combined with your creativity help provide the personality!

Instructions:

  1. Wipe ware with damp sponge to remove bisque dust.
 
  2. Use patterns, pencil and tracing paper to transfer faces on each of the cups.

Girl Teacup: 

  3. Using No. 1 Liner, carefully paint three coats Black to eyes, lashes, eyebrows and nose. Let dry after each coat.
 
  4. Use No. 4 Liner and/or No. 6 Round as needed to paint three coats Honeysuckle in hearts for cheeks. Let dry after each coat.
 
  5. Use No. 6 Round to paint three coats Honeysuckle in stripes on handle with Honeysuckle. Let dry after each coat.
 
  6. Dry foot (place cup directly on kiln shelf) and fire to cone 06.
 
  7. Use Fan Glaze brush to apply two coats Clear to entire inside and outside of teacup. Let dry after each coat.
 
  8. Stilt in kiln and fire to cone 06.

Boy Teacup with Bowtie:  

  9. Using No. 1 Liner, carefully paint three coats Black to eyes, eyebrows and nose. Let dry after each coat.
 
  10. Use No. 6 Round to paint three coats Neon Blue stripes on handle. Let dry after each coat.
 
  11. Dry foot and fire to cone 06.
 
  12. Use Fan Glaze brush to apply two coats Clear to entire inside and outside of teacup. Let dry after each coat.
 
  13. Stilt and fire to cone 06.

Sleepy Boy Cup with Necktie: 

  14. Using No. 1 Liner, carefully paint three coats Black to eyes and nose. Let dry after each coat.
 
  15. Use No. 6 Round to paint three coats Black to necktie and handle. Let dry after each coat.
 
  16. Dry foot and fire to cone 06.
 
  17. Using Fan Glaze brush, paint two coats Clear to entire cup. Let dry after each coat.
 
  18. Stilt and fire to cone 06.

Miscellaneous:

  • Container for water
  • Pencil
  • Foil or foam plate for palette
  • Tracing paper, one 8” x 10” sheet
  • Potter’s sponge
