My Dad is Awesome Frame

Give your dad something different for Father’s Day! Create this cool textured frame for his favorite space with Duncan® color, sand and a wide-tooth comb.

  1. Wipe frame with damp sponge to remove bisque dust.
  2. Write “DAD” in block letters on piece of contact paper. (Make sure they will fit across front of frame.) Cut out letters with a craft knife, leaving outside edges intact to create stencil. Set stencil aside.
  3. Measure ¾” down from top of frame, then use a pencil and ruler to create a straight line across top of frame as shown. Measure 1¼” below first line and create another line, measure 1” under the second line and create a third line, and lastly, draw a line across the bottom of frame opening.
  4. Brush 3 coats of Black onto top section of frame, center stripe across opening and bottom portion of frame as shown. Let dry.
  5. Brush 3 coats of Ocean Mist onto remaining stripes. Let dry.
  6. Remove backing from stencil and position on lower part of frame. (Don’t forget to add the centers for the “Ds” and the “A”.)  Make sure edges are sealed.
  7. Pour some Ocean Mist into a paper cup or container with some sand. Stir for a grainy consistency.
  8. Brush sand mixture liberally onto letters. While wet, comb through paint to reveal the Black underneath, being careful not to scrape off the Black. Remove stencil and let dry.
  9. Use the No. 4 Liner loaded with Light Blue Spruce to create “AWESOME” along the top of frame. Let dry then brush two coats of Ocean Mist over letters. Let dry completely.
  10. Brush 3 coats of Black onto back of frame. Let dry.
  11. Stilt and fire to cone 06.
