 Print

Instructions:

1. Wash tote bag and leave damp.  Lay out on work surface covered with plastic table cover.

2. Fold bag in half lengthwise and smooth out any creases.

3. Draw a half heart shape along fold with washable marker.

4. Starting at bottom of heart, pleat along marker line, drawing fabric into a straight line as you go, so that marker line forms a straight line along the tops of pleats.

5. Secure along this line with rubber band.  Secure a second rubber band approx. ½” outside first rubber band.

6. Mix dye according to package instructions.

7. Place tied bag on pastry rack over covered work surface.  Apply dye to tied heart section of bag.

8. Apply remaining dye to body of bag.  Let set 6-8 hours.

9. Rinse fabric in warm water until water runs clear.

10. Fill washer to large load setting with hottest water suitable for fabric and a small amount of non-bleach laundry detergent. Wash and dry separately for the first few washes.

Miscellaneous:

  • Large pastry cooling rack
