Suzie Shinseki

Suzie works as a Senior Designer at iLoveToCreate®. She has been involved with art since childhood, and her passion has continued throughout her life. She honed her natural talents by attending the Academy of Arts in San Francisco on scholarship, art classes at San Jose City College. She works with various media and substrates. You can find her masterpieces on painted signs, murals, people and animal portraiture, mold design, sculptures, ceramic projects and fabric paint designs. Her commercial endeavors include children’s coloring books, illustrative designs for bags, brochures and cards. Her exceptional illustration skills have brought her many jobs as a fashion illustrator for designers in Hong Kong and Hawaii.

The Spirit of Americana

Mix up a spirited offering of yummy treats for this traditional tabletop trio! Duncan® Oh Four® latte bowls make the ideal home for patriotic colors of Duncan® Satin Glazes®.

Instructions:

  1. Wipe ware with damp sponge to remove bisque dust.
  2. Paint insides of two bowls with three coats of White. Let dry after each coat.
  3. Paint three coats White to the outside and bottom of the third bowl. Let dry after each coat. Paint three coats Neon Blue to the inside of the same bowl. Let dry after each coat.
  4. Paint three coats Neon Red to the outside and bottom of one of the bowls with the white centers. Let dry after each coat.
  5. Paint three coats Neon Blue to the outside and bottom of the remaining bowl with a white center. Let dry after each coat.
  6. Use pencil to lightly sketch or trace the design in each section on the outside the white bowl.
  7. Load No. 4 Liner with Neon Blue and make brush strokes along side of the lightly traced line using the following technique: Lay brush at starting point of leaf and curve slightly in toward the center line lifting brush up to end with a thin stroke. Do the reverse on the other side of line.
  8. Use pencil to trace or freehand the same design on the top inside of the Neon Red bowl. Repeat the same stroke work with Neon Red. Let dry.
  9. Use pencil to trace or freehand the same design on the top inside of the Neon Blue bowl. Repeat the same stroke work with Neon Blue. Let dry.
  10. Stilt in kiln and fire to witness cone 06.
