Create in Full Color: Rainbow DIY Projects for Everyone
Rainbows have a way of bringing every color, style, and personality together—and these four DIY projects are all about celebrating that vibrant, all-inclusive creativity. From bold tie-dye shirts to colorful custom shoes, each craft is inspired by the joy of self-expression and making something uniquely you. #1 Heart Tie-Dye Resist T-shirt This fun shirt we like to say is “perfectly imperfect.” Add little glue hearts to act as a barrier resist, then slowly add your tie dye inside the hearts with a paintbrush. Let it set for 6-8 hours. Then wash the glue away. Some of the dye may sneak under the glue making adorable little altered heart designs. #2 Rainbow Checkered Slip-on Shoes This is where a stencil works best. Place your stencil on canvas shoes and add your rainbow colors in a color pattern of choice. #3 Splatter Paint Shoes There are no rules with this one! Use a paintbrush to splatter, flick and drip rainbow colors on your shoes to make them one of a kind. #4 Watercolor Tie-Dye Button Shirt Apply your dye to your cotton button-down shirt wherever you want and then use a paintbrush dipped in water to “stretch out” the dye color into a watercolor effect. How To Use Spray Paint For Your Spring Crafts
Is anyone else getting excited for spring? We’re ready for some extra sunshine and rainbows, so we’re making our own to tide us over til the real deal is in full effect. Most of us have been working on crafts and home décor projects in the past year, so if you have some extra COLORSHOT Spray Paints left over, we have a new spring craft for you! At Charlotte’s House will show you how to use spray paint to brighten things up around your house with this colorful rainbow pottery DIY using thrifted vases. What you need: - COLORSHOT Premium Spray Paints in desired colors - Ceramic vases in various sizes and shapes - Protective surface cover - Tools/products to remove labels (if needed) This spring craft is the perfect way to upcycle old vases you have stashed in your cabinet, or vases you can find super cheap thrift shopping. If you picked your vases up in a store, make sure to remove any labels or price stickers and clean the vases to remove dust and prints. Working in a well-ventilated area, cover your work surface to protect it, then spray several light coats of paint onto your vases/ceramicware instead of one heavy coat. This will help prevent the paint from dripping or pooling. Tip: don’t paint the insides of the vases if you plan on using them to display real flowers or plants that need water. Once you’re happy with your spray paint coverage, let everything dry completely. For this spring craft, you’ll want to use lots of bright colors! You can go with a whole spectrum of color or variations of blue, green or any of your favorite shades for a more monochromatic look. Now that you know how to use spray paint on glass & ceramics, get creative and have fun making your own decorative spring arrangement! You can display your rainbow vases on a shelf like At Charlotte’s House, or fill them with plants and flowers if you’re looking for a vibrant and functional set of vases. Paint the pumpkin stems with acrylic paint Once the spray painted pumpkins have dried completely, paint the stems with green acrylic paint. This extra step adds a more depth to your pumpkin wreath! Add foliage to the wreath form Heat up your hot glue gun and add foliage to the wreath form, gluing into place as needed. Oh Yay Studio used a black leaf garland for their pumpkin wreath, but you can also use autumn-colored leaves or moss for a more natural fall look. DIY Dog Costume: No-Sew Burger with Felt Glue
If you’re like us you love dressing up your dogs for Halloween with DIY dog costumes! Get your pets in on the spooky season festivities with an adorable no-sew burger costume! This tutorial from Oh Yay Studio will show you how to make a tasty-looking hamburger costume for your pets using Aleene’s Felt & Foam Tacky Glue. Halloween has never looked so cute! What you need: Aleene’s Felt & Foam Tacky Glue 1 round foam ball Felt in “burger” colors (tan, white, green, red, yellow) Scissors Knife Paintbrush Brown paint Elastic or ribbon Straight pins (optional) Step 1 Use knife to cut your foam ball into 4 pieces for this burger costume. The top rounded piece will be the top bun, the second piece will be the patty, third will be the bottom bun. Set aside the bottom rounded piece for another craft project! Step 2 Cut a circle of tan felt to fit the top rounded piece, leaving approximately 3 inches around the edges to fold to the underside. Step 3 Use Aleenes Felt & Foam Tacky Glue to glue the felt in place. Optionally, you can secure the felt in place temporarily with straight pins while the glue dries. You'll want the felt to be nice and taut as to eliminate any creases in your DIY dog costume! Step 4 Repeat steps 2 and 3 with the third piece of your foam ball to create the bottom bun. Step 5 This classic burger costume would not be complete without sesame seeds on the bun! Use scissors to cut out seeds from white felt and glue to the top bun. Step 6 Next, you’ll want to create a juicy patty for your dog’s burger costume! Take the second piece of the foam ball and paint all sides brown. Add extra details, such as grill marks and shading, for a more realistic patty. Set aside to dry completely. Step 7 While the patty is drying, cut some felt to create toppings for your DIY dog costume. For this project, Oh Yay Studio made lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, and cheese. Get creative with the details to make a one-of-a-kind burger costume for your pup! Try making felt onions, mushrooms, bacon, or any other combination of condiments and toppings! Step 8 Once the paint and glue have dried, it's time to start assembling your dogs burger costume! Remove any pins and begin layering your burger. Start with the bottom bun, then glue down your lettuce, patty, cheese, tomatoes, pickles, and any other toppings. Lastly, glue down the top bun and squeeze the burger together to ensure everything is properly adhered. Step 9 Once the burger costume has set, add elastic or ribbon to the bottom to fit your dog's body. Secure with glue and allow to dry completely. Step 10 Its finally time to dress up your pup! Be sure to snap some photos of this adorable DIY dog costume before the Halloween festivities begin. Will you be creating a burger costume for your furry friends this Halloween with Aleenes? Whether you are going for spooky or cute, we want to see your DIY dog costumes! Snap a pic of your pup and us on social media @AleenesDIY!

Accordion Tie-Dye Technique
Easy and fun! You will love this tie-dye technique! Steps Step 1: Gather your tie-dye kit, pre-washed 100% cotton T-shirt, disposable surface cover and plastic bag or wrap and you're ready to go! Step 2: To mix your dyes, simply add tap water to the fill line on each bottle, replace the nozzles with the caps still on, and shake each bottle thoroughly until all dye powder dissolves. Wait to mix your dyes until you are ready to apply them. Dyes left unapplied for more than 72 hours might lose their concentration and therefore might not appear as vibrant after dyeing. Step 3: Lay your damp shirt out flat horizontally on your covered work surface. Starting on the side closest to you, accordion fold (over & under) the entire shirt in even folds, working your way to the other side. Step 4: Bind your folded T-shirt by wrapping rubber bands around it, evenly spacing your rubber bands several inches apart. You can even wrap more around your shirt closer together; the more rubber bands you use, the more white space and accordion tie-dye patterns you’ll have in between your dye areas. Step 5: It’s not a necessity, but if you have one, place your damp, bound T-shirt onto a wire rack before dyeing to help prevent the different dye colors from pooling underneath and potentially muddying the colors. We applied one dye color to the entire project in between rubber bands, but you can apply a different color to each bound section if you want, or alternate colors between each section. Get creative and have fun! Make sure to rotate your project as you apply your dyes to match colors on the other side. Once you’ve finished adding your dye(s) to your project, place your tie-dye project into a sealable bag, or wrap it in plastic wrap. This will help keep the project damp while the dye fully processes. Leave the project sealed for 6 to 8 hours or overnight for the dye to completely set. Step 6: After the dye colors have completely set, remove the rubber bands by carefully cutting away from your project. Rinse, wash and dry separately according to your kit instructions. Step 7: Fold your damp T-shirt in half vertically, then accordion pleat from the base of the shirt all the way to the top of the shirt, making sure to pleat the sleeves as well. Step 8: Bind your pleated shirt with rubber bands, wrapping them tightly around the shirt every 1 to 1.5 inches apart. Step 9: Place your bound T-shirt on a wire rack (if you have one), then apply your dye colors as desired to each banded section. Whatever color pattern you choose, make sure to rotate your project and match the colors on the back side. Once you’ve finished adding your dye(s) to your project, place your tie-dye project into a sealable bag, or wrap it in plastic wrap. This will help keep the project damp while the dye fully processes. Leave the project sealed for 6 to 8 hours or overnight for the dye to completely set. Step 10: After the dye colors have completely set, remove the rubber bands by carefully cutting away from your project. Rinse, wash and dry separately according to your kit instructions. Step 11: Lay your damp T-shirt out flat with the base of the shirt closest to you. Create small, tight accordion pleats starting at the base edge and working your way all the way up to the top of the shirt. Make sure to pleat the sleeves as well. Once you have the shirt tightly pleated, form it into an S-curve pattern, creating around 4 to 5 curves depending on the size of your shirt. Step 12: Bind your S-curved/pleated shirt with rubber bands. Use 2 rubber bands vertically around the center to hold in place, then crisscross 2 more rubber bands with the ends at each corner so the entire shirt is held secure. When using the ice tie-dye technique, we recommend placing your project on a wire rack over a bucket or bin to collect all of the dye and ice as it melts. Open your unmixed dye bottles and Step 13: After the ice has completely melted, remove the rubber bands by carefully cutting away from your project. Rinse, wash and dry separately according to your kit instructions.
Reverse Tie-Dye Technique
Yes, tie dyeing in reverse is real & results in amazing designs by first removing color with your design and then adding dye. Steps Step 1: The reverse tie-dye technique is different from other tie-dye techniques! For this one, you’ll want a darker 100% cotton T-shirt you can remove the color from with the included Color Changer. Leave your shirt dry and crumple into a tight mound. Secure your crumpled shirt with rubber bands to hold in place. Step 2: Place your dry crumpled shirt onto a rack if using, then mix up one of the bottles of Color Changer from your Reverse Tie-Dye Kit according to instructions. Wearing the gloves from your kit, apply the Color Changer liquid to all exposed parts of the crumpled shirt, rotating the fabric as needed. Use your gloved hands to help work the Color Changer into the fabric. Allow the Color Changer to set, gradually removing the color from the fabric. Check it regularly and when you are happy with the effects, remove the rubber bands and immediately rinse and wash according to instructions. Step 3: Once your shirt has been washed, leave it damp and lay it flat on your covered work surface. Apply your chosen dye colors randomly over the shirt, especially in the lightened sections so you can really see the dye pop! Step 4: Once you’ve added your dyes, carefully gather your shirt and place it into a sealable plastic bag or wrap in plastic wrap to keep it damp while the dye completely processes. This will take 6 to 8 hours or overnight if you want to give it some extra time. After the dye processes, rinse and launder according to instructions.
Ice Dye Technique
No need to mix up your dyes for the ultra-cool ice tie-dye technique! Let the ice do the work to produce one-of-a-kind watercolor tie-dye effects. Steps Step 1: Wash your shirt (or other fabric item) and leave damp. You don't have to presoak your fabric in soda ash before dyeing because Tulip One-Step Tie Dye contains soda ash in the formula! Lay your damp fabric out flat on your covered work surface and decide which tie-dye technique you would like to create before adding your dyes. With the ice dye technique, the crumple tie-dye technique (shown) works great, but you can experiement with other techniques if you want. There's no wrong way to tie dye! Step 2: Place your damp shirt on a wire rack (over a bucket is recommended to catch the dye as it melts). Scrunch your shirt into a tight mound and use rubber bands to hold the fabric tightly in place. Cover your entire project with ice. Step 3: For the ice tie-dye technique, you don’t need to mix your One-Step Dyes with water before dyeing your project. The ice is going to do the work! Remove the nozzles from your dye bottles and sprinkle the powder randomly over the ice. Get creative with it – there’s no dye placement strategy here! You can add as many dye colors as you like. Step 4: Once you’ve added your dye powders, let the ice completely melt. As the ice melts, it will transfer the dyes to the shirt underneath for cool watercolor patterns. Depending on where you live and the weather temperature, it could take a while for the ice to melt or not much time at all. If the ice melts quickly, you can then place your project into a sealable bag and allow the dye to set for 6 to 8 hours. If it takes about this long for the ice to melt, it’s time to skip the bag and move on to the next tie-dye step! Step 5: Once your ice has melted, remove the rubber bands and check out your cool ice crumple tie dye! Rinse, wash and dry according to your instruction guide.
Shibori Tie-Dye Technique
More intricate and detailed than modern tie dye, Shibori is a Japanese technique that uses string and other folding methods. Steps Step 1 Lay your damp shirt out flat on your work surface. Accordion fold the fabric from the bottom edge up to the top of the shirt in even folds. Starting on one end of the folded shirt, accordion fold it again in the other direction until you reach the other end. Wrap a rubber band tightly around the folded fabric in each direction, crisscrossing the rubber bands. This will hold your folded fabric securely in place. Step 2 Wearing the plastic gloves from your kit, place your project on a wire rack if using. Shibori traditionally uses indigo-colored dye, so mix up your indigo/dark blue dye and apply it to all of the exposed areas of fabric on each side. Step 3 Place your dyed project into a sealable plastic bag or wrap in plastic wrap to keep it damp while the dye completely processes. This will take 6 to 8 hours or overnight if you want to give it some extra time. Step 4: Once your dye has fully processed, carefully cut away the rubber bands and check out your shibori tie dye! Rinse, wash and dry according to your instruction guide.
Spiral Tie-Dye Technique
Put a twist on tie dye with the spiral tie-dye technique! Whether you use one color or four, you'll love the winding effects! Steps Step 1: Once you have your item to tie dye, you do not have to presoak it in soda ash because Tulip One-Step Dyes already have soda ash in the mix. However, you should prewash your fabric before tie dyeing, especially if it’s new. New fabrics are coated in a chemical called sizing to help keep them wrinkle and stain free, but sizing can block the dye from fully absorbing into the fabric. Wash fabrics without fabric softener, which can also block dye absorption. Leave your T-shirt or fabric item damp for the tie-dye process. Step 2: Lay your damp T-shirt (or fabric) out flat onto your covered word surface. For a perfect center spiral, locate the center of the collar and the section just under the sleeves. This is your center point for your spiral tie dye! Pinch the fabric at this point and twist into a swirl. Keep twisting the fabric tightly until the entire shirt is formed into a spiral shape. Use 3 rubber bands to hold your spiraled shirt in place, crisscrossing the rubber bands to create 6 wedge shapes. Step 3: Wearing the plastic gloves from your kit, place your project on a wire rack if using. You can apply as many dye colors as wedge shapes created with the rubber bands, or as few as one dye color. There’s no wrong way to tie dye! However you decide to apply your dyes, flip over your spiral and match the dyes in the same color pattern on the back. Step 4: Place your dyed project into a sealable plastic bag or wrap in plastic wrap to keep it damp while the dye completely processes. This will take 6 to 8 hours or overnight if you want to give it some extra time. Note: It’s important for the fabric to remain damp while the dye sets so it can fully absorb into the fabric fibers. Step 5: Once your dye has fully processed, remove the rubber bands and check out your spiral tie dye! Rinse, wash and dry according to your instruction guide.
Bullseye Tie-Dye Technique
The most recognized tie-dye technique and the easiest! Just add rubber band rings to your heart’s content. Steps Step 1: Pinch fabric at the center of where your bullseye will be. Pull upward into a cone shape, guiding the fabric with other hand. Step 2: Wrap a rubber band 1 to 2 inches below tip of fabric, then continue binding fabric with desired amount of rubber bands. Step 3: Apply desired dye colors to sections of fabric.
